2018 WORKSHOPS

Distracted and Disorganized? Action Steps to Empower Sensational Learners in 2018 through Body Activated Learning

Presented by Aubrey Schmalle, SIPT, OTR/L

Saturday, February 24, 2018

10:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.

What are sensory integration issues and how do they affect learning? What can teachers do to help support the children in their classroom who seem to be having trouble concentrating, sitting still, paying attention, learning? Maria Montessori knew that movement was essential for learning and growth, yet sometimes we do not offer enough or specific movement activities to support learning in our Montessori classrooms. Aubrey Schmallle, keynote speaker at the 2016 Pathways to a Peaceful School Conference, has created a specific curriculum to assist children through Body Activated Learning. This workshop will help make you a much better teacher, as you begin to more deeply understand the challenges facing many of our young learners, and learn clear, specific ways to help assist each individual in this process. This is a joyful workshop--and interactive. Come dressed to move!

Objectives/participants will learn:

  • How to make a plan for creating habits and classroom routines to support Body Activation for learning.
  • How to assess and problem solve for individual student needs using the Body Activated Learning model through case studies and interactive small group work.
  • A step by step action plan for implementing Body Activated Learning in your classroom or home.
Participants will receive:
  • A Certificate of Attendance for 3 hours of Professional Development
  • A Body-Activated Learning handbook.
  •  Downloadable templates for planning and implementation of strategies.
  • 14 day free trial to the membership website to support the implementation of the program and connect you with others in the Body Activated Learning Community.
Aubrey Schmallle, SIPT, OTR/L was the keynote speaker at the 2015 **Pathways to a Peaceful School Conference**. The owner of Sensational Achievements, she has been specializing in evaluation and treatment of sensory processing disorders since 2005. She is certified in sensory integration theory and practice and has advanced clinical knowledge in the areas of functional visual skill development and sensory-based learning disabilities (dysgraphia, dyspraxia, and deficits in executive functioning).
